Know which work actually makes you money
Profitability by client, project, discipline, job title and person, costed at your rate cards or at what your people really cost.
Revenue isn't the same as profit
Most agencies know what they’ve billed. Far fewer know which clients, projects or services made money once everyone’s time is counted.
Getting there usually means exporting timesheets, pulling salaries from payroll and building a spreadsheet nobody else can follow. By the time it’s done, the quarter’s over.
Rofinery already has the proposals, the payments, the time and the rates. So the profitability report is there whenever you want to look.
One report, six ways to look at it
Switch tabs to see the same figures from a different angle.
The whole agency, month by month
Start with revenue, cost and margin for the whole agency, across the period you choose. Time on internal projects counts as cost, so the margin isn't flattered.
By client and by project
See which clients and projects earn their keep. Expand any row to see how its figures were worked out.
By discipline, job title and person
Compare the charge rate with the cost rate for each role, and see where margin is made or lost. Per-person figures only show to the people you allow.
Rate card cost or actual cost
Cost the time at your rate cards, or switch to actual cost - each person's salary on the date they did the work, with overheads, bank holidays, sick days, leave and breaks taken into account.
What goes into the numbers
No black box. Each figure comes from records your team already keeps.
Revenue on its payment dates
Approved proposals count on the dates in their payment schedule. Rolling retainers add their value each month
Expenses included
Paid and absorbed expenses count as cost, and nothing already priced into a proposal is counted twice
A margin target
Set a target margin for the year and see how far above or below it you are
How the numbers work
A panel on the report explains revenue, cost, margin and effective rate in plain terms
Charge rate against cost rate
See both side by side for each job title and each person
Filters and sorting
Filter by client, discipline or job title, and sort by margin, cost or name
Date ranges
Year to date to start with, then this quarter, last quarter, this year, the last 90 days or your own dates
CSV export
Download any tab, with the cost basis and the period included
Who sees it
Only people with access to financials. Per-person figures and actual cost are for admins by default
Where the figures come from
Profitability is the end of the chain, so every part of it feeds in.
Questions about profitability
No. By default, time is costed at your rate cards' cost rates. Add salaries if you want to switch to actual cost.
People with access to the report and to financial figures. By default that's admins and advisors, and only admins see per-person figures.
On the dates in its payment schedule. Anything that isn't scheduled counts on the day the proposal was approved, and rolling retainers add their value each month.
Yes. Time on internal projects counts as cost, so the agency's margin reflects everything your team spends time on.
